Is SMP like a tattoo?
By definition, a tattoo is a permanent mark on the skin by a process of ingraining a mark into the dermis. Similarly, SMP involves the application of pigments however the process and results are significantly different.
The imprint of a single hair stubble isn't applied as deeply as a tattoo and unlike traditional tattooing which consists of lines and colour shading, the SMP process is performed one impression at a time with specialised needles and pigments designed to replicate thousands of tiny hair follicles, with upwards of 30,000 required for full scalp coverage.
How do I choose a hairline?
If you are unsure of what style or type of hairline you are after, we are here to help. With experience on how to fit a hairline to your head shape and age, we can help recommend on the best fit for you . Over the course of your sessions you can also tweak and adjust the hairline for a perfect result.
How long will the SMP process take?
Generally 2-4 sessions. The initial session will take anywhere from 3 - 5 hours depending on the coverage required. The follow up sessions may require similar times again depending on your individual requirements and generally sufficient to complete your new look.
How long does the SMP treatment last?
The pigments used by SMP Hair Clinic are very stable once implanted into the skin, this is due to the absence of oils such as glycerine and witch hazel. This means the treatment will generally not require reapplication for a number of years. Having said that everyone's skin is different in genetic makeup so touch ups may be required after a few years that should only take a few hours to to complete.
What will my treatment cost?
The cost of your treatment will depend on the total area that needs coverage and the density that you will require to replicate your natural growth pattern.
You will be provided with a quote during your consultations. The cost of SMP us far less costly than transplant surgery and does not come with the continue financial commitments associated with hair piece maintenance.
Will SMP match my existing hair?
In order to duplicate your natural hair colour, we blend pigments to achieve an almost exact match. The process of SMP continues to the boundary of your existing hair and we work slightly within the hair to achieve a seamless blend.
Can you match my hair colour?
When you look at a strand of hair from the side you can see the colour but when shaved back and viewed from the end it is a shade of grey, this can be anything from black, all the way to the grey scale or light silver blonde.
Your pigmentation is mixed and applied accordingly to replicate the correct shade.
Is there any long term maintenance?
The only long term maintenance will be to continue to shave your naturally growing hair so that it is blended in with the treatment and to use a good quality sunscreen when you are outdoors as over exposure to UV light will cause the pigment to fade overtime.
Can SMP be used for Alopecia?
We can help disguise the appearance of Alopecia by masking the balding areas.
As the skin is no different to any other area of the scalp the procedure is being used with great success.
What types of pigments used and are they safe?
We only use natural carbon and water based pigments created specifically for Scalp Micropigmentation. The pigmentation has been formulated to set in the skin of the scalp resulting in very fine, crisp and clear follicle replications. We do not use regular tattoo inks or permanent make up pigments as they quality is not conducive to SMP.
Do the pigments change colour?
No, our pigments do not contain blue or green hues. It is the deterioration of the iron oxides in regular tattoo ink and PMU pigments that cause discolouration.
Is SMP painful?
The majority of our clients who have undergone this procedure have told us they get used to the sensation very quickly. While every client will have a different experience the treatment is generally quite tolerable. Clients with regular tattoos say the mild discomfort is nothing by comparison. There will be an amount of redness after the treatment is completed which should subside over a few hours.
Can I keep the hair I have long?
SMP can be used to add density to thinning areas. We are able to add thickness to common areas like the crown, receding hairlines, and more. For males that are using SMP to rebuild their entire hairline, we recommend keeping your hair short for a more balanced look.
Is the consultation free?
Yes, we offer free consultations for anyone looking to learn about how SMP can help their hair loss.
